SOINTULA DRIFTWOOD SKETCHBOOK / JOURNAL

Even though I have been collecting these cedar bark driftwood pieces for over ten years now, I never tire of their beauty!  This piece was found along the shores of Malcolm Island near Sointula.  When I saw them to use as book covers I am still struck by the beauty of their interiors.

PAPER TRAITS:  Strathmore 400 series drawing paper (80 lb/118 gsm).  This paper works well with graphite pencil, coloured pencil, pen and ink, marker, soft pastel, mixed media and oil pastel; perfect for all your writing and art ideas.  Each group of pages is wrapped in a cover of Strathmore 400 series cold press watercolour paper (140 lb/300 gsm).  Himalayan Lotka paper with dried flower inclusions has been laminated to each of the cover pages.

All the paper has been individually cut by hand and  dyed in a tea bath to blend with the natural wood grains.

Hand sewn with Irish linen thread using the ancient Coptic method of bookbinding; a structure   that allows for each of the pages to lay flat for optimum use. Leather strap and antique brass pin provide a closure.

96 drawing pages / 32 water colour pages
