My work is informed by a sense of place and a response to my environment. I have spent a great deal of my life exploring the lakes and rivers of both Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. This has become key inspiration for my sculptural bookmaking. Making work from found material connects me to my surroundings and is an important way that I’ve learned to process experiences and foster a sense of relationship with/belonging to the land. Transforming foraged objects into sculptural books signifies both the value of that object and, in the gesture of a functional form, its’ unfinished history.
This particular piece of wood was found along the shores of Ptarmigan Bay in the Lake of the Woods, Ontario.
