This book is deeply rooted in a place I love, Malcolm Island, BC – a place I have been visiting regularly for over 20 years – a place of refuge and inspiration – a place I always come away from refreshed and with renewed creativity.
The covers are weathered cedar that I found at the local mill on the island, the thread that I used for the slow stitching was dyed with local plants and berries, the nautical charts are from the local waters surrounding this beautiful part of Canada. The rusty objects I used as a starting point for several of the cover pages were found while foraging for driftwood along the shoreline of Malcolm Island.
108 pages – a mix of water colour cover pages (aged), heavy nautical chart paper and Apache paper (aged). Sewn together using the two needle coptic binding method using waxed rust coloured linen thread.
Approximately 6 1/2″ wide x 4″ tall x 1 1/2″ thick (when compressed) 8″ thick when allowed to expand 🙂
